Tribute to Hrishikesh Mukherjee

This is my first blog. I thought I will write about Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films.
Most of Hrishi dada ‘s film have left a deep impact on me . I have seen many of his films for the umpteen times. My all time favourite is Anand . The film is like a cool breeze on a warm sunny afternoon . It refreshes you and your outlook towards life. Anand’s character of reaching out to everyone in the world and keeping all the ghum ( unhappiness ) to oneself is truly inspiring and life invigorating. He knows his time is running out but chooses to enjoy every bit of his remaining life by reaching out to others. What a way to live one’s life.

Chupke Chupke is a total laugh riot . The film is about a gentle dig on the person speaking Shudd Hindi . Good songs , good acting and having a good star cast for the movie with the indelible touch of Hrishidada leaves you asking for more . Why don’t they make movies like this or why don’t they make people like Hrishidada , all simplistic , altruistic and taking simple events in life to tell a story.

Khubsoorat is having a deep look at a disciplinarian and the effect it has on keeping a big family united. Rekha’s role has been tailor made for the movie .

Anupama was a movie ahead of its time. The heroine played by Sharmila who is lacking self confidence and barely speaks a few words because of her not getting enough love from her father , in the end breaks away from her cocooned life to lead a life on her own. The heroine coming on her own and taking courage to express her feelings is truly inspiring to people leading similar lives.

What about Gol Mal , a story revolving around the hero telling a lie in the beginning and trying to cover it up with the Judwa ( twin ) concept has one in splits of laughter. Amol Palekar’s simplicit outlook has been best used by Hrishidada. Utpal Dutt’s acting and his timing of dialogues are really great to watch.

I can keep going on and on , on Hrishidada ‘s movies.

All his movies had a good message for the importance of family life and the idiosyncrasies of the daily life of a typical middle class family but it can be still be overcome by having a Khubsoorat attitude towards life in general to get Anand to the maximum extent. It is just a CHOTI SI BATH to look for enjoyments in the mundane activities of one’s life and people must not be Guddi ( blind ) to the concept that life’s many enjoyments are in simple things and don’t require great wealth and fame.
