A small outing on a chilly Friday Morning at Koshy’s Bengaluru

I planned a small outing (very much like small idlis at Darshinis) along with my friend on a chilly  Friday  morning.

The objective was to enjoy the new face of Bangalore in combination with the old world charm of  Bangalore.

I and  my friend  boarded the Metro  at  7.00 AM at  Mysore road metro station and within 20 minutes were at  the  Cubbon park.  We had a leisurely walk in the Cubbon park for about an hour  and filled our lungs with the fresh morning dew filled air. The cold was quite enjoyable and palpable.  We sat on a bench for some time and started reminiscing about the good old days of Bangalore (reminiscing here means we are turning old without our knowledge).  There was the usual crowd of joggers, walkers and jaywalkers in all hues and colors. (What is life without colors?)

We walked  down from  Cubbon Park  to  Koshy’s   Restaurant which was about a kilometre. The choice of  Koshy's restaurant was it brings back memory of an old world charm of Bangalore with its interiors of wooden furniture and high rise ceilings with  huge pillars and large fans.

Koshy's of Bangalore is recognized as an "establishment of Bangalore", a very popular restaurant and hangout on St Mark's Road, Bangalore owned by the Koshy family in Bangalore originally from Mavelikkara, which is a meeting point for journalists, artists, theatre persons, students and foreigners. Founded in 1940, it retains an old-world charm with huge pillars and large fans. The main building has Parade Cafe, which is simply referred to as Koshy's, the Jewel Box restaurant and a bakery. It is said that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Nikita Khrushchev, Queen Elizabeth II are some of the dignitaries to have dined there. We had for breakfast vegetable sandwich and egg omelette (which tasted like heaven in the chill weather).

We washed down our breakfast with a steaming cup of hot coffee. We enjoyed the atmosphere and were transported immediately back to the good olden days. Waiters with white uniform were  taking their own pretty time to serve and we were also in  no hurry to come back to the present world. There were few customers and it was  quiet and a serene atmosphere engulfed us.

We walked back to the MG road Metro station and within twenty minutes were back at Mysore road Metro station. We used Metro train the new face of Bangalore for transport, walking in Cubbon park and breakfast at Koshy’s to take us back to the good old days of Bangalore.  Who told the new and the old cannot coexist?

We can always make our own small innovative package to blend all the different ingredients that Bangalore has to offer and savor it to our heart’s content.

At 11.00 AM i was back home and opened my Laptop and it immediately transferred me back to the present world with reminders of all the pending work.

You see we have to learn the art of stealing good moments from our busy life.
